Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL) has deployed two Disaster Risk Reduction Teams today after the summit explosion of Mayon.
“Following the summit explosion of Mt. Mayon this afternoon, Naval Forces Southern Luzon deployed two of its Disaster Risk Reduction Team to help in the evacuation operations in affected areas in Albay,” NAVFORSOL said.
It added that the DRRTs will operate under Task Group MAYON activated by Southern Luzon Command.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert level to 4th level after the eruption at around 12:43 pm.
“In view thereof, DOST-PHIVOLCS is raising the Alert Level of Mayon Volcano from Alert 3 (increased tendency to hazardous eruption) to Alert Level 4 (hazardous eruption imminent),” PHIVOLCS said.
“Because of this, the Danger Zone is extended to 8 kilometers radius from the summit vent. The public is strongly advised to be vigilant and desist from entering this danger zone. Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from eruptions can be hazardous to aircraft,” it added.
It noted that it is maintaining close monitoring of Mayon Volcano and any new development will be communicated to all concerned stakeholders.
