Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade said that the bidding process for the Tagum-Davao-Digos phase of Mindanao Railway should start by first week of July. In line with this, Tugade ordered the smooth conduct of the bidding process.
He added that the railway in Mindanao will be at par with what they are planning for Metro Manila.
“Kung ano ang plano natin sa riles sa Metro Manila, ganun din dapat ang plano sa riles sa Mindanao,” Tudage said. “Kung first class ang target sa Metro Manila, first class din dapat sa Mindanao.”
“Remember, there is no second class island in the Republic of the Philippines. Lahat tayo pantay pantay,” he added.
Mindanao Railway – Tagum-Davao-Digos project or the first phase of Mindanao Railway was approved by National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Board in June 2017.
Mindanao Railway – Tagum-Davao-Digos project is a 102-kilometer alignment connecting Tagum, Davao Del Norte to Davao City to Digos, Davao Del Sur. It will have eight stations: Tagum, Carmen, Panabo, Mudiang, Davao Terminal, Toril, Sta. Cruz, and Digos.
The project is expected to cost around PHP35.257 billion. It is targeted for completion by 2021.
The proposed Mindanao Railway consists of 1,530-kilometer circumferential and spur rail lines that will connect Davao provinces, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Zamboanga.
