Mindanao Railway update discussed by DOTr, ADB

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) met with officials of Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss updates on the Metro Manila Greenways Project, and the Mindanao Railway. The meeting was held January 30.

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade, DOTr officer-in-charge Undersecretary for Railways TJ Batan, DOTr Undersecretary for Finance and Administration Garry De Guzman, and DOTr Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Procurement Reinier Yebra were presnt during the meeting.

Mindanao Railway – Tagum-Davao-Digos project or the first phase of Mindanao Railway was approved by National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Board in June 2017.

Construction of the said initial phase is expected to start third quarter this year.

Mindanao Railway – Tagum-Davao-Digos project is a 102-kilometer alignment connecting Tagum, Davao Del Norte to Davao City to Digos, Davao Del Sur. It will have eight stations: Tagum, Carmen, Panabo, Mudiang, Davao Terminal, Toril, Sta. Cruz, and Digos.

The project is expected to cost around PHP35.257 billion. It is targeted for completion by 2021.

The proposed Mindanao Railway consists of 1,530-kilometer circumferential and spur rail lines that will connect Davao provinces, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Zamboanga.
