Military sends off team to PHL’s northernmost island for completion of facility

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) commander Lieutenant General Emmanuel B. Salamat led the sent off of Joint Task Group (JTG) Mavulis aboard BRP Bacolod City (LS-550) at Naval Base Heracleo Alano, Sangley Point, Cavite City on February 28.

The JTG will be conducting works for the completion of facility in the country’s northernmost island, Mavulis Island in Batanes Islands.

“The JTG Muvulis is comprised of Engineering units from the Naval Construction Brigade and 522nd Engineer Bn of the Philippine Army, and Marines tasks to bring the Mavulis project to completion,” NOLCOM said.

Lieutenant General Salamat commended the troops for their initial works on the fishermen shelter in the island. 

“Faced with the difficulties and challenges, I thank your sacrifices and hardwork during the early stages of the construction. I’m here to instill commitment and greater passion to give our selfless service to urge you to complete the project. This is your legacy and nation pride to be part of this project,” he said.

NOLCOM said it acknowledges the significant support and partnership of various private organization, corporate agencies and individuals for their “shared resources” donated in-kind to put this project and grant to the local fisher folks their request and most needed shelter in the area during bad weather.

“Let us work together with our civilian parthers as they generously share the resources in the spirit of Bayanihan, ours is to bring the AFP’s support and to responsibly do our job,” Salamat said.
