Military pressure forces 2 more ASG terrorists to yield

Amid the intensified conduct of focused military operations in Sulu, two Abu Sayyaf Group members voluntarily surrendered to 1101st Brigade Commander Colonel Antonio G. Nafarrete at Headquarters, 1101st Brigrade, Jolo, Sulu around 9am today, March 1.

Muktar Moharaji Morsalin, 27 years old and Babaing Amil Jalaidi, 45 years old, both residents of Sitio Akang, Barangay Buroh, Talipao, Sulu also turned over one M16 rifle and one M1 Garand rifle. Morsalin was a follower of ASG subleader Jun Irad while Jalaidi was a member of the group under ASG subleader Basaron Arok.

Jun Irad and Basaron Arok are two of the sub leaders of Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan.

“The successful surrender was facilitated by the combined efforts of the military and intelligence operatives,” said Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu. “We are pleased to welcome them back to the mainstream of society and we will guarantee that they will be abetted in their reintegration.”

Subject surrenderors are currently undergoing medical check-up and custodial debriefing.

“Knowing that our strategies are reaping positive results, it is assured that we will build up our efforts to end terrorism in the region,” said WestMinCom Chief Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega. “We would like to acknowledge the support and cooperation of our stakeholders and the public in all our endeavors.”
