Mayor Isko cancels all Chinese New Year celebration activities in City of Manila

City of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has released an Executive Order cancelling all activities in the city in relation to the celebration of Chinese New Year on February 12.

“No dragon dance, street party, stage show, parade or any other similar activity will be held for the celebration of the Chinese New Year from February 11 to 12. Liquor sale also banned in Binondo Chinatown area for the duration,” Mayor Isko Moreno said in his social networking page.

The city mayor said in the order that if not cancelled, the activities “can be surely an easy medium of COVID-19 spread and transmission thereby endangering the health, well-being and safety no only of residents but also their visitors who will join them in the celebration.”

Mayor Isko directed the Manila Police Director to implement and monitor compliance of the said order.

“The police and barangay authorities are directed to ensure compliance with IATF Omnibus Guidelines on the strict wearing of full-face coverage face shield and face mask outside of residence and social distancing,” the mayor added.
