Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel in Cotobato City and regional police operatives have arrested a kin of Maute brothers who were among the killed terrorist leaders during the Marawi City battle.
Najiya Karon-Maute, 37 years old, is included in the Arrest Order No 2 issued on June 5, 2017 made by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM) director Senior Superintendent James Allan Logan said Cotabato City police and CIDG-Maguindanao operatives served the arrest order against Karon-Maute on January 23.
CIDG-ARMM spokesperson Chief Inspector Allan Uy said Karon-Maute is allegedly a widow of slain terrorist leader Mohammad Khayam Maute.
“Karon-Maute is still undergoing tactical interrogation about her role in the terror group,” Uy said. The suspect’s lawyers and family members have visited her at the CIDG-ARMM detention facility at Pedro Colina Hill in this city.
