Philippine Marine Corps’ Marine Battalion Landing Team 8 (MBLT 8) has arrived at Port Irene in Santa Ana, Cagayan to operate under Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) North Luzon Command (NOLCOM). According to NOLCOM officials, the deployment of MBLT 8 is the largest deployment of Marines to the territory.
MBLT 8 was transported by Philippine Navy landing platform dock BRP Tarlac (LD-601) from Zamboanga to Santa Ana, Cagayan. Sent off ceremony was conducted on February 10.
The newly deployed Marines will help operate against NPA terrorists.
“We will exert our best efforts, on the order of the President, to degrade the communist NPA terrorist capability here in Northern Luzon,” NOLCOM commander Lieutenant General Emmanuel Salamat said.
“Not only troops, we are privileged to have additional platforms that include air and sea assets to be able to ensure our regular maritime patrol in the Philippine Rise,” he added.
