Private First Class (PFC) Romeo Esperida, Jr. of the 63rd Company of the Marine Special Operations Group was awarded with Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kampilan by President Rodrigo Duterte on February 13.
The awarding was conducted during a simple ceremony at the Music Room of Malacañang Palace.
PFC Esperida served during the Marawi siege and suffered severe injuries during a 14-hour intense firefight with the Maute terrorists last June 9, 2017, wherein 13 of his Marine comrades were killed.
President Duterte awarded him the Kampilan Medal for his direct participation “in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.”
Along with PFC Esperida, Dr. Fabio Enrique Posas was also awarded with Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kamagi. Dr. Posas saved PFC Esperida who was the most injured among the 40 troops wounded in the June 9 clash against terrorists in Marawi City.
Dr. Posas, a cardiologist, is also known as ‘The Heart Plumber’ for performing Transcatheter Aortic Value Replacement (TAVR) procedures.
The President awarded him the Kamagi Medal for contributing significantly “to an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.”
