Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be summoning Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose over Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr.’s remarks that Sabah is not in Malaysia.

“This is an irresponsible statement that affects bilateral ties. @MalaysiaMFA will summon the Philippines Ambassador on Monday to explain,” Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said in response to Secretary Locsin’s tweet.

The Malaysian official added that “Sabah is, and will always be, part of Malaysia.”

“Sabah is not in Malaysia if you want to have anything to do with the Philippines,” Secretary Locsin said in a tweet commenting on a post by US Embassy in Manila mentioning Sabah, Malaysia.
