The Makati Medical Center (MMC) has denounced Senator Koko Pimentel’s “irresponsible” and “reckless” action breaching the infection and containment protocols of the hospital’s delivery room complex, and home quarantine protocol.
Earlier today, March 25, Senator Pimentel announced that he tested positive for COVID-19. “I was informed late last night March 24, 2020 that I have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The swab was taken last Friday, March 20, 2020,” the senator said in a statement.
According to statement released by MMC, Senator Piimental brought his wife to the hospital for delivery via cesarean section evening of March 24.
“By being in MMC, Senator Pimentel violated his Home Quarantine Protocol, entered the premises of the MMC-DR, thus, unduly exposed healthcare workers to possible infection,” MMC said.
“We denounce the irresponsible and reckless action of the senator. He added to the burden of the hospital trying to respond in its most competent and aggressive manner to cope with the daunting challenges of this CoVID-19 outbreak,” it added.
“More than anyone else, Mr. Pimentel, should have realized the ardent desire of every well-meaning Filipino and every dedicated healthcare institution to contain the spread of the infection,” MMC added.
However, the hospital assured the public that MMC-DR has been decontaminated and disinfected and is now ready for use.
“The involved healthcare workers have been duly identified, evaluated, and will be quarantined, if the risk of exposure warrants it,” MMC noted.
