“After nearly two decades and three administrations, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project has finally commenced construction, now with an overall progress rate of 48.43%, as of 31 August 2020,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said October 2.
DOTr said that in partnership with Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and Bouygues Construction the completion of the project, which is targeted to be partially operable by 2021, is being fast-tracked.
“One of the main features of the accelerated construction is the utilization of aboveground launchers to erect 203 pi-girders (the chief horizontal support in a structure), in order to minimize ground level traffic,” DOTr said.
It added that a pi-girder is targeted to be installed every 1-2 days until January 2022.
“This 11.7 km extension of the existing LRT Line 1 will run from Baclaran to Niog in Bacoor, Cavite, and is foreseen to cut travel time from Manila to Cavite from 1 hour and 10 minutes to only 25 minutes, as well as accommodating 300,000 to 500,000 passengers daily,” DOTr said.
