Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said that according to his source cellular carrier owned by LG Corporation, LG Uplus Corp. is the South Korean company Philippine Telegraph & Telephone Corp. (PT&T) is having negotiations with for the establishment of third telecommunications company in the country.
PT&T earlier confirmed that it is in “advanced” talks with a South Korean firm to establish a telecommunications company.
“Interesado daw ang LG, according to my source. So this will be very exciting, kasi kung mayroon ka namang ganiyang kalaking kumpanya na mag-i-invest sa Pilipinas with PT&T, then it becomes a very exciting – a telco industry for the Philippines this 2018,” Andanar told Orly Trinidad and Fernan Gulapa in an interview on January 12 over DZBB radio.
Secretary Andanar also noted that currently parties interested to enter Philippine telecommunications industry are China Telecom with its Filipino partner and PT&T with South Korean partner.
Andanar added that just the pronouncement of President Rodirgo Duterte – that a new telco player is invited to the Philippines – prompted PLDT and Globe to re-invest in telco industry worth 50 billion pesos and 48 billion pesos, respectively.
“So, the mere pronouncement already generated almost a hundred billion pesos. So, napakaganda nito para sa ekonomiya natin,” he said.
