Korean jets fire warning shots as Russian aircraft violates airspace

UPDATED: The Ministry of National Defense (MND) of South Korea reported on July 23 that 2 Chinese and 3 Russian military aircraft have entered Korea’s Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ).

The Korean MND said that Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) fighter jets scrambled to track, monitor flight, block maneuvering, and fire warning shots.

It noted that one Russian aircraft penetrated Dokdo’s airspace twice lasting for few minutes with Korean jets firing warning shots in both instances. The Korean MND further said that this is the first time a Russian aircraft intruded Korean airspace.

The Korean ministry said the Korean government is concerned about the entry of Chinese and Russian military aircraft in KADIZ and the intrusion of a Russian military aircraft.
