The Philippines and South Korea conducted the 23rd Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation on December 9 via videoconference, according to the Department of National Defense (DND).
The Philippine delegation was headed by the DND Assistant Secretary for Logistics, Acquisitions and Self-Reliant Defense Posture Jesus Rey R. Avilla. While, the South Korean delegation was led by Vice Minister Seo Hyeung-Jin of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
Among the topics discussed were South Korea’s security policy on Defense Science and Technology, the Philippine Navy’s Corvette Acquisition Program, and improvements to the FA-50PH aircraft of the Philippine Air Force.
“The JCMs are conducted pursuant to the 1994 RP-ROK Memorandum of Understanding on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation, and are intended to uphold bilateral defense logistics cooperation, as well as promote the mutual interests of the Philippines and South Korea in the areas of logistics and defense industries, and are considered one of the most active bilateral activities being conducted by the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with their foreign counterparts,” DND said.
