Communist leader Jose Maria Sison and his wife Julie De Lima received 1.2 million pesos each for reparation from the government as among the human rights victims during Martial Law.
“The remittance has been made to the bank account of Julie. We are instant peso millionaires. She got 1.2 and I got 1.2,” Sison told ABS-CBN News. “Whatever is the amount, the important thing is that the Philippine government accepted that violations of human rights occurred.”
When asked if the money is a sign of goodwill on the part of the government to push for the success of peace talks, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said “tingin ko hindi naman related iyan sa usapang kapayapaan.”
