Joint Task Force Sulu holds interoperability exercise


The Joint Task Force Sulu’s (JTF Sulu) has conducted a weeklong joint training exercise dubbed as LUPAH SUG 01-2021 which involved units from the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, and Philippine Navy.

LUPAH SUG 01-2021 culminated on February 19 during a ceremony at Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu with National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

“As your Defense Secretary, I am always excited to witness first-hand the efforts of our troops to further improve their skills and capacities so that they can better fulfill their duties and do well in their missions. That being said, let me congratulate the Joint Task Force – Sulu led by MGen Gonzales, especially those who personally participated in the exercises, on the success of this important undertaking,” Secretary Lorenzana said at the ceremony.

“Rest assured that the Defense department, our national government, especially under the leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, are always ready to provide you with the necessary support, be it through capability upgrades, better infrastructure, rewards and compensation, and morale boosting programs for you soldiers and your families,” he added.


Major General Gonzales said “among the key objectives and goals of the joint training exercise are enhancing our forces’ interoperability, integrating and synchronizing our interdependent capabilities, and more importantly, building trust and harmonious relationships with one another.”

“In this joint training, we have learned a lot and definitely we are gaining headway in closing operational land-air-sea gaps. With the local governments and all of Tausug’s support I am confident that the end of terrorism in Sulu is within our reach” the JTF-Sulu Commander added.

The ceremony was also attended by Armed Forces of the Philippine Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Cirilito E. Sobejana and Western Mindanao Command chief Lieutenant General Corleto S. Vinluan Jr.
