“Very promising po siya, mukha po talaga siyang sa ngayon sa mga anti-viral ay ito po ang parang medyo directed po ang treatment towards talagang [sa] COVID-19,” Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director general Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo said in an interview with Dobol B sa News TV.

“Of course… this is a very early development drug, at nakita po na meron siyang positive response sa mga pasyente sa kanya,” he explained. “Kasi nga dinedevelop pa, wala pa po siyang production in commercial quantity pero tinitingnan din po natin kung pano siya maipapasok sa Pilipinas.”

On March 28, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in a press conference that Avigan has attracted attention from many countries. He said that clinical trial process required for formal approval of the drug as treatment for the new coronavirus will be launched.

He also said that Japan is willing to work with other countries to expand clinical research and start increasing drug production.
