Japanese warship arrives in Manila

Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMDSF) tank landing ship JS Osumi (LT-4001) was welcomed today by the Philippine Navy at Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila.

The Japanese warship is in the Philippines for a 3-day goodwill visit.

“The visit aims to strengthen the relationship between the two navies,” the Philippine Navy said.

Philippine welcoming team was headed by representative of Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, Captain Dennis Rommel G. Quines.

“JS Osumi is the frontrunner of the Osumi-class tank landing ships in the service of JMSDF. Heading the visiting more or less 140 officers and crew are the commander of Landing Ship Division One Captain Tomonori Kobayashi and ship’s commanding officer Captain Yuji Horikawa,” Philippine Navy spokesperson Capt. Lued Lincuna said prior to the arrival of the said Japanese ship.
