Japan is open to provide the Philippine Navy with more Beechcraft King Air TC-90 aircraft, Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said on June 13.
The Japanese government has donated a total of five TC-90 aircraft from Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). Three are now in active Navy service.
“Nung last visit ko sa Japan, and sabi ng kanilang chief of navy, he is inclined to give us more of the aircraft na binigay nila sa atin,” he said.
“Tatlong aircraft na ngayon ang in operation, ‘yung dalawa pipinturahan pa natin lalagyan pa natin ng avionics,” Empedrad added.
He said these aircraft form part of Navy’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and surveillance capabilities.
Philippine Navy’s Naval Air Group (NAG) activated the third TC-90 on May 29. The first and second aircraft were activated November 21, 2017 and March 19, 2018, respectively.
