Japan turns over VTMS control center, radar sites

The Japanese government has turned over Philippine Coast Guard’s Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) Control Center and 3 Radar Sites.

The turn over and inauguration was conducted at Coast Guard District Central Visayas, Pier 3 in Cebu City on February 12.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade delivered the keynote message.

The project is part of 1.152 billion yen worth Enhancement of Communications Systems funded through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) official development assistance (ODA) which aims to improve the communications capabilities of the PCG and enhance the safety, search and rescue activities in the Philippines.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Philippines Koji Haneda was among the primary guests.
