ISIS puts Duterte on radar, planning a strike- report

“[President Rodrigo Duterte] will not cower to threats from ISIS nor any other terrorist groups,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on January 26.

Roque’s statement was a reaction to India-based ‘The Print’ report saying “Duterte’s agenda to militarily wipe out Islamist extremism from the state of Mindanao – has provoked the group to mobilise sleeper cells based in Indonesia, which are now planning a strike.”

The report noted that “an intelligence alert that the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, is on the radar of the Islamic State is giving [Indian] security agencies sleepless nights.”

“He is unmoved by this latest threat and will be unrelenting in his fight against violent extremism,” Secretary Roque added.

“All precautions though are being taken by the PSG and Indian authorities. We will all be there for and with him,” he noted.
