Indonesia inaugurates military unit in Natuna

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – TNI) inaugurated the Natuna Integrated TNI Unit on December 18. The said unit is tasked to counter security threats in Natuna Islands.

TNI Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto personally attended the said inauguration. “The Natuna Integrated TNI Unit is part of our strategic plans to develop our strength to provide deterrence against threats, especially at the borders,” he said at the event.

The unit is initially composed of a military battalion, Marines, engineering units, and artillery batteries. A health services facility, port, and hangar are also available for operations.

The said unit is expected to be expanded as needs arise. It will be part of a future Regional Defense Joint Command.
