“I believe in what I believe. I will not be transactional. I will not sacrifice my principles and this administration’s priorities,” House of Representatives Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement February 29.
He added that like President Rodrigo Duterte he believes “that all forms of gambling lead to misery – even PoGos are a no go for me.”
“I believe those who owe government should pay up – energetically. And as far as the National Budget is concerned, it should never be corrupted or be a source of pork, nor should it be treated as spoils to be divided among cronies,” he noted.
He also said that those who cannot see and appreciate the reforms he stands for “can remove me, I will continue to serve as the Representative of Taguig and Pateros. I will continue the lonely fight with whoever will join me. “
“If they do, then I will continue to serve as their Speaker,” he said.
“Lastly, I believe in silver linings – so thank you to the Triple A Boys in Congress- ung mga puro absent, sipsip sa ABSCBN, at yung mga nagaantay lang ng allotments – you’ve shown me just how desperately we need to reform this institution. You have strengthened my resolve to continue the fight,” Cayetano said.
