Has ‘tara system’ migrated from Customs to Bureau of Corrections? – Lacson

“From release of smuggled goods to release of convicts. Has the Bureau of Customs “tara system” migrated to the Bureau of Corrections?” Senator Ping Lacson said in a Twitter post on August 28.

This is after reports came out that former Calauan mayor Antonio Sanchez could be released from prison because of Republic Act No. 10592 or the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo then clarified that the said law “is categorical in excluding recidivists, habitual delinquents, escapees and persons charged with heinous crimes from the benefit of its coverage.”

“The inevitable conclusion is that all those convicted of a heinous crime, including Mr. Antonio Sanchez, would be ineligible and disqualified from availing the benefits of the GCTA,” he added.
