Good if Pinoy firm will take over Hanjin and support Navy: Lorenzana

“We still lack complete information about it so I will defer any comment. Anyway, our economic managers are looking into it. [W]ould be good if a local company would acquire and operate it to support our Navy modernization,” National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said when asked by PNA if the possibility of a Filipino firm taking over Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines (HHIC-Phil) help the Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) program.

On January 14, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that asied from Chinese firms, a Filipino firm is interested in HHIC-Phil which is currently facing financial woes.

“From what I gathered, mayroong Pilipinong gustong mag-takeover,” Panelo said. “Maraming shipping magnate sa Pilipinas na can afford. So let’s wait.”

“Kung Chinese company naman na dati na nating ka-deal at wala namang problema,” he said. “Eh di walang isyu. Eh kung hindi natin kilala eh di siyempre we have to vet para malaman natin.”
