France supplying surface-to-air missiles of Philippines’ upcoming frigates

The Department of National Defense (DND) has awarded MBDA France, a European developer and manufacturer of missiles, contract for the Frigate Acquisition Project (FAP) Lot 2 (Missiles and Munition) – Lot 2B (Surface-to-Air Missile) for the Philippine Navy.

FAP Lot 1 is the acquisition of the actual 2 frigates now being built by South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), while Lot 2 is for the acquisition of munitions and missiles divided into three sublots 2A, 2B, and 2C.

MBDA France got the contract for Lot 2B which will supply surface-to-air missiles for 10,690,000 Euros.

“This is to inform you that the proposal of MBDA France for the Acquisition of Frigate Lot 2 (Missiles and Munition) – Lot 2B Surface-to-Air Missile Project of the Philippine Navy, with a corresponding contract price in the amount of Ten Million Six Hundred Ninety Thousand Euros (10,690,000 Euros) is hereby accepted,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in the Notice of Award dated January 30.

The 2 frigates, Jose Rizal-class frigates, are expected to be delivered 2020 and 2021.
