France offers financial assistance for creation of PHL’s submarine force

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and French Ambassador to the Philippines Michèle Boccoz during their meeting on March 2 discussed France’s financial assistance being offered by the French government for creation of Philippine Navy’s submarine force.

According to France’s Directorate General of the Treasury, Secretary Lorenzana, during his meeting with the French ambassador, underlined the quality of the financial assistance proposed by the the French Treasury in support of the offer made by Naval Group to the Philippine Navy for the constitution of a submarine force.

Moreover, Secretary Lorenzana and Ambassador Boccoz discussed France’s strategy in the Indo-Pacific as well as Philippines-France bilateral defense exchanges, as an extension of the defense cooperation agreement signed in 2016.

The defense cooperation agreement aims to strengthen cooperation through high-level visits, organize defense policy consultations, training and capacity building exercises as well as develop naval cooperation between the two countries.
