According to the official count of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WMC), as of 2 pm January 27, the death toll as result of Jolo Cathedral bombing was at 18.
Five of the deaths were from the AFP, one from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and twelve from civilian.
Wounded from the AFP are sixteen, two from PCG, and sixty-five from civilian.
The first explosion happened inside the cathedral. The second blast occurred while government security forces were responding to the first blast outside the cathedral.
“I have directed our troops to heighten their alert level, secure all places of worships and public places at once, and initiate pro-active security measures to thwart hostile plans,” National Defense Delfin Lorenzana said in a statement.
