The first batch of new rails that will replace all tracks of the MRT-3 has arrived at the Tracks Laydown Yard near the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) last night, 01 August 2019. Last night’s batch comprised of 81 out of 4,053 pieces of rails.
A vital aspect in the comprehensive rehabilitation being undertaken to restore the railway into high-grade design condition, rail replacement works will commence this November during non-operating hours and are seen to be completed by February 2021.
On 11 July 2019, these new 18-meter rails arrived at the Harbour Centre Port Terminal in Manila from Japan, months earlier than their scheduled date of delivery.
The transfer of the new rails from the Port of Manila to Parañaque will take 20 to 40 days, as this will only be conducted at night to avoid affecting traffic. DOTR
