Philippine Navy Naval Forces West (NAVFORWEST) gave honor to a fallen Marine hero, Staff Sergeant Cesar R. Barlas, the team leader of the Force Reconnaissance Group of the 3rd Marine Brigade (3MBde).

“The military units in Palawan give honors to a Marine hero at Naval Station Apolinario Jalandoon today, Sept. 5, 2020,” NAVFORWEST said.

It noted that it is a long-lived naval tradition wherein every personnel man the rail, stood evenly space along the road, and rendered salute to the remains of their fallen comrade-at-arms as it passes.

“SSgt Barlas offered the ultimate sacrifice and was Killed In Action (KIA) as he led his unit during an encounter with the armed members of the Bienvenido Vallever Command last 03 September 2020 at Sitio Kubuyoan, Barangay Mainit in Brooke’s Point,” NAVFORWEST said.

The encounter resulted to 5 killed in action on the enemy side.

“As reported, said NPA leaders have standing warrants of arrest and were responsible for the harassment of government forces and death of a COVID-19 government frontliner. As of this time, the government troops are still conducting clearing operations on the encounter site and its adjacent community. The 3MBde is calling on the remaining NPAs to peacefully surrender and embrace the government’s peace and surrender offer under PTF ELCAC,” NAVFORWEST said.
