FA-50PH, capable aircraft requested for PHL Rise patrols

News

The Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is requesting from the higher headquarters to provide them more capable aircraft like the Lockheed C-130, Airbus Military C-295, and FA-50PH for patrol missions over its area of responsibility including Philippine Rise, formerly Benham Rise.

According to NOLCOM spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Isagani Nato the above mentioned aircraft are capable of conducting long-range maritime air patrol and are more stable.

Bajo de Masinloc, also known as Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal, is also included to NOLCOM’s area of responsibility.

The request came after President Rodrigo Duterte declared that only Filipinos must conduct scientific research in Philippine Rise and benefit from it.

Agriculture Secretary Manny PiƱol also said that President Duterte ordered government assets to safeguard Philippine Rise from illegal foreign fishers.
