Expanded Tacloban airport terminal inaugurated

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) headed by Secretary Arthur Tugade inaugurated the expanded passenger terminal building (PTB) of the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City, Leyte today, March 16.

This is after 9 months of construction which increased the total floor area of the PTB to 1,100 square meters and added 275 seats to the departure area, now with a total of 635 seats from only a seating capacity of 360 seats before the extension, DOTr said.

Check-in station was also improved and widened, comfort rooms were fully-renovated.

“We will continue to rehabilitate and develop a safe and accommodating terminal where everyone can wait and feel comfortable. We stand by our promise to develop our airports all over the country,” Tugade said.

DOTr said currently ongoing since October 2017 are the construction of asphalt overlays, a newly designed parking area, shore protection, and site development for the new terminal area that includes a 1-km perimeter fence.

“On the other hand, the new terminal building, which will be constructed within the airport complex, and established beside the old terminal, will follow international standards on airport construction and operations,” DOTr said. “All projects are expected to be completed by January 2019, while the obligation of funds for the new terminal building will be on August or September 2018.”
