Entire Philippines placed under state of calamity

President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the entire Philippines under state of calamity due to COVID-19.

Under Proclamation 929, President Duterte placed the entire country under a state of calamity for period of 6 months.

“[S]uch declaration will, among others, afford the National Government, as well as LGUs, ample latitude to utilize appropriate funds, including the Quick Response Fund, in their disaster preparedness and response efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to continue to provide basic services to the affected population,” President Duterte said in the proclamation.

The same proclamation, signed March 16, also stated the placing of Luzon under enhanced community quarantine.
