“I convey my warmest felicitations on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and People’s Republic of China,” President Rodrigo Duterte said in a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping dated June 9.
“In 1975, our two countries set out to build new avenues of peaceful and friendly cooperation strongly anchored on the centuries-old bonds of amity and kinship between the Filipino and Chinese peoples,” President Duterte said.
He said that the milestone reached by Philippine-China relations “is an auspicious time to reaffirm our shared aspirations and the principles we have committed to uphold as enshrined in out Joint Communique forty-five years ago.”
“These same sacrosanct principles for peaceful co-existence and mutually beneficial cooperation will remain our lodestar, as we continue to work together as partners under our Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation,” Duterte added.
He also noted that with the world facing challenges in security, stability, and rule of law, and non-traditional threats like COVID-19 pandemic “further strengthening Philippines-China partnership takes an even greater significance.”
“China is a close neighbor and valued friend,” he added. “As we look ahead to the golden jubilee of our diplomatic ties, I assure Your Excellency of our firm commitment to preserve and build on the gains of our close partnership for greater peace, progress and prosperity for our nations.”
