President Rodrigo Duterte wants to speed up the completion of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization program which is now in its second phase, AFP chief General Carlito Galvez said during his visit to Southern Luzon Command in Inquirer.net report.
The second horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program under Republic Act No. 10349 of 2012 is scheduled 2018 to 2022. The third horizon is set 2023 to 2027.
“He (President Duterte) said: I’m only buying time. When the time comes, other countries would not easily touch or bully us,” General Galvez said.
During the 120th anniversary celebration of Philippine Navy on May 22, President Duterte said “the government is currently working on implementing the Second Horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program, which encompasses a number of projects for the Philippine [Navy] amounting to P77 billion.”
“Together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, I am confident that one day, we will realize our aspiration of building a strong and resilient nation,” Duterte added.
