President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed that he wants to board future BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) to see the capabilities of the Philippine Navy’s newest and most modern warship.
“I want to board that new — new frigate that you… Is it — is it the biggest among the… I read it one week ago na nandito na. I want to board just to see how good it is. Kindly arrange the time,” President Duterte said during his talk to the nation on June 22.
The scheduled commissioning of future BRP Jose Rizal on June 19 was postponed.
According to Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo the crew of FF-150 needed to undergo another quarantine after on crew member initially tested positive for COVID-19, but later tested negative.
“A separate handover christening and commissioning ceremony originally scheduled on June 19 consistent to the birth anniversary of its namesake Dr. Jose Rizal, will be postponed to a later date due to unavoidable circumstances,” the Philippine Navy said.
The Navy said President Duterte is expected to attend the commissioning ceremony as the guest of honor and speaker.
