President Rodrigo Duterte thanked the owners of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific for providing flights from Kuwait to Manila to repatriate OFWs.
“I’d like to just say to Mr. Lucio Tan and the Gokongwei family, si Lance, in behalf of my – in behalf of our countrymen, salamat po and I will remember you for all time,” the President said in his speech when he welcomed arriving OFWs on February 13.
“Ito namang kay Lucio Tan, huwag kang mag-alala, walang harassment sa gobyerno ko ke magkasama tayo sa pulitika o magkalaban. Just do the right thing and I will do the right thing and we will be all right,” he added.
“Huwag kayong mag-alala na meron akong masamang loob, wala po. Kasi ganun lang ang pulitika. Kanya-kanyang choice „yan kung sinong gusto mong tulungan,” he added. “Eh tapos na ‘yan at binawi na ninyo at ilang beses na. Because of this incident, Mr. Lucio Tan, I’m going to shut up forever.”
“Nabayaran mo naman ‘yung taxes mo at „yung ipinakita mo. And mind you, I am ready to protect every businessman, kagaya ninyo,” the President said.
PAL already provided at least five flights from Kuwait and expressed that it is willing to provide more flights free of charge.
