Duterte ready to step down by 2020 if federalism in place

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday, February 28 that if the proposed federalism is already in effect by year 2020 he is ready to step down.

“Sabi nila na gusto kong mag-diktador, magpatagal, pagka-2020 nandiyan na ‘yan, tapos may posisyong presidente, alis na ako, bababa na ako. Hindi na ako maghintay ng ‘22. Kukusa ako ng baba pero kailangan ninyo ng – kailangan natin ng presidente talaga,” he said during the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Construction of Christine Villas in Brgy. Maria Cristina, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte.

“Mahirap kung walang mag-kontrol tapos puro malawak na ang powers ng – Kailangan isang pulis lang at isang armed forces lang,” he said.

The President said he will not allow the formation of regional police and armed forces.

“One of the things that I would insist na hindi talaga ako papayag na may mga regional armed forces pati regional police,” he said.

“Ang target ko kasi by 2020 kung may bagong itong rekomendasyon ngayon ng constitutional commission, sila justice Puno, they want to retain the presidential type tapos federal ang parang – parang France,” President Duterte said.
