President Rodrigo Duterte is praying for Japan Prime Minister Abe Shinzo’s speedy and full recovery. Prime Minister Abe resigned over health problems.
“It is with much regret that I learned of Prime Minister Abe Shinzo’s resignation,” President Duterte said in a statement. “Through many years of our engagement, I have seen a leader with a bold vision and firm determination to do what was best for his country and our region.”
President Duterte noted that Philippines-Japan relations, now at level of Strategic Partnership, greatly flourished during PM Abe’s leadership.
“What we have worked for and achieved together lays the foundation for an even closer friendship and cooperation between our countries in the future,” Duterte said.
He also said that he will not forget Abe’s kindness and strength of character.
“Prime Minister Abe was also gracious, accepting my invitation to visit Davao City where I and Honeylet welcomed him and Madame Abe warmly to my humble home,” the President said.
“He is – to me and the Filipino people – a true friend closer than a brother,” President Duterte said.
