Duterte may let Chinese firm distribute electricity in Palawan if current coop won’t shape up

President Rodrigo Duterte has warned the cooperative distributing electricity in Palawan that if it cannot provide enough energy within 2018 he may let other firms with enough financing, like Chinese firms, to take over.

“I have nothing against cooperatives. They were the pioneering spirit of the early years of Iloilo, sa inyo dito, and the entire Philippines, Mindanao,” President Duterte said during the 1st Subaraw Biodiversity Festival held at Mendoza Plaza, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on November 10.

“Walang personalan ‘to, trabaho lang. I’ll give you about towards at the end of the year, a new set-up that would provide energy – enough energy to run a place and so that it can develop and it can operate and it can move,” he added.

“You’ll have to upgrade your source of energy. Kasi ‘pag hindi, ang gawain ko maghanap ako ng may pera talaga. China, eh nangangati ang kamay niyan eh just to get hold of developments here,” he said.

“I will expropriate your franchise. Bilihin ko ‘yan. Well, at a valuation that is fair. Just compensation,” he added. ” Then ibigay ko sa mag-operate na bago.”

“I’d like to talk to the governor and the ano – si mayor. Mag-usap tayo. Mag-kape lang tayo sir sa opisina ko,” he added.
