Duterte leads groundbreaking of Chinese-funded Pasig River bridges

News

President Rodrigo Duterte today led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge and Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Intramuros, Manila. Both bridges will be built through China Grant-Aid Bridges Project.

The President was accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar and Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua in the ceremonial lowering of time capsule.

The two bridges, both crossing Pasig River, are expected to be completed in 2020.

Both bridges are part of the Metro Manila Logistics Improvement Network, a traffic management plan composed of 12 new bridges crossing Pasig River, Marikina River, and Manggahan Floodway.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will connect Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

On the other hand, the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge will be equipped with a four-lane carriageway and a three-meter sidewalk along both sides.
