President Rodrigo Duterte will be having one-on-one dialogue with Chinese President Xi Jinping when he visits China this month and he will invoke the arbitral ruling, Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo said during August 6 press briefing.
“Remember that I said before that there will be a time when I will invoke that arbitral ruling, this is the time that’s why I’m going there,” President Duterte said as quoted by Panelo when asked about the reason for his upcoming visit to China within this month.
“It will be a one-on-one dialogue,” Panelo added. He said that the President is interested in the 60/40 joint exploration deal and to clear issues surrounding West Philippine Sea dispute including the Reed Bank incident.
“Pursuant to what he said the first time we visited China and he said: There will be a time that I will raise this issue and talk about it,” Panelo said.
