Duterte halts destruction of Hummers to be given to military, police

President Rodrigo Duterte said during the joint 68th National Security Council and 69th National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Founding Anniversary that he stopped the destruction of vans and Hummers during a condemnation event of smuggled vehicles in Sta. Ana, Cagayan on July 30.

“I was there in Cagayan yesterday to destroy – para matapos na ‘yan (car smuggling),” he at the NSC/NICA event on July 31.

“Pabalik-balik ‘yang issue na ‘yan smuggling tapos walang kukuha. Then right after a few months, the auction office will announce that it would sell,” he said.

However, the President said he stopped the inclusion of Hummers that could be used by the military and police.

“Now meron doon na hindi ko ipinasira. Iyong vans pati ‘yung Hummer,” he said. “Nung sinabi ni [Cagayan Special Economic Zone (CEZA) Administrator and CEO Raul Lambino]: May Hummer tayo diyan.”

“How many – was it 14 or – I’m sure I heard more than 10. I could not exactly remember what was the figure. But I said do not destroy it because I’ll give it to the military and the police for their use,” he said.

“Para naka-Hummer na kayo. Kami ilang taon na namin ‘yan naglalaway-laway kami hindi kami maka… Tapos ‘yung mga vans, because they are within the vicinity of the local governments, Cagayan ‘yan eh. Eh ‘di paghati-hatian na lang nila doon kung aabot,” he said.
