Duterte fires high official over ghost deliveries in military

News

UPDATED: During Roque’s press conference in Malacañang it was revealed that the exact amount is PHP1.491570 million (not billion) worth of anomalous deals. Roque also revealed that AFP Health Service Command chief Brigadier General Edwin Leo T. Torrelavega and Colonel Antonio Punzalan were relieved and will be subjected to court martial. He added that other anomalous transactions in V Luna involving hundreds of millions will be investigated.

President Rodrigo Duterte has fired a high ranking official from the military establishment over PHP1.5 billion worth of ghost deliveries, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told ANC’s Headstart.

Roque said he will be announcing the name of the official during his press conference today at Malacañang Palace. However, he assured that it is not National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana nor Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr.

“It’s about an institution that’s very close to the heart of the President,” Roque told ANC adding that the President was really aggrieved by this instance of corruption.

“He thought that this will not occur – he thinks that by doubling the salary of our soldiers corruption would be minimized but apparently it continues,” he added.

He said the firing involves one person but the incident will trigger an investigation to find out how many more will be affected.

Roque added that he thinks the contract was closed during the current administration.
