Duterte eyes fighting NPA assassins with help of former Mindanao cops

President Rodrigo Duterte told the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), during a talk to troops at the Grandstand of the Edwin Andrews Air Base, Zamboanga City on March 10, to be watchful of NPA’s assassin squad Special Partisan Unit (SPARU).

“Bantay kayo diyan sa ano, I’m trying to enlist also the help of former police officers assigned in Mindanao where the Sparrows are most active, na nagbibigay ako ng armas, there’s always the caveat, the warning na bantay kayo sa Sparrow,” President Duterte said.

Duterte noted that the government loses two to four soldiers every day because of SPARU or Sparrow.

“We lose every day, I don’t know kung nabigyan na kayo ng armas, but we lose every day about two, three, four soldiers diyan sa Sparrow na ‘yan, pati ‘yung sa droga, another two, three – two, three ang average ko na pulis na namamatay, everyday ‘yan sa briefer ko,” he said.

“So be careful of the Sparrows at there are policemen, retired or active going around and some of them are also former NPAs, meron ‘yan silang short, it could be good just also to listen,” he said.
