President Rodrigo Duterte attended the opening ceremony of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 at the National Aquatics Center in Beijing, People’s Republic of China on August 30, 2019.
President Duterte attended the event with People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping and high ranking officials of FIBA.
“The President ended Day Three on a lighter note by attending the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Opening Ceremony. We are pleased to note that the President of the Philippines is the only foreign head of state/government invited as guest of Chinese President Xi Jinping,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
On day 2, August 29, President Duterte held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi in Beijing.
On day 3, also in Beijing, Duterte met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People, where both leaders affirmed both nations’ diplomatic ties, which are based on trust, respect and pursuit of mutual benefits.
President Duterte will be watching Philippines’ FIBA 2019 game against Italy in Guangzhou, August 31.
