President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the acquisition of 8 units of fast attack craft/interdiction craft missile, 2 corvettes.

“Four of these interdiction crafts will be equipped with non-line-of-sight missile that can hit targets 25 kilometers away with pinpoint accuracy. The capability will easily destroy the enemy in a Marawi type war,” Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said during the 121st anniversary celebration of the Philippine Navy at Commodore Rudiardo A. Brown Beaching Area (CRABBA) in Sangley Point in Cavite.

He also said that the President approved the acquisition of corvettes with budget of PHP28 billion.

“These corvettes will be more powerful than the two frigates because of more sophisticated and modern weapon system,” Empedrad said.

President Duterte said in his speech that he already “contracted” to buy boats. “And I will give you more by the end of my term,” he added.
