“We confirm that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed the appointment of Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police,” Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said in a statement May 5.
“Gen. Eleazar’s track record of professionalism, dedication and integrity speaks for itself. We are therefore confident that he will continue the reform initiatives of his predecessors and lead the police organization to greater heights,” he Roque.
In a separate statement, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año welcomed Police Lieutenant General Eleazar’s appointment.
“I welcome the appointment Police Lieutenant General Eleazar who is very qualified for the job,” Secretary Año said.
“I expect [him] to lead the PNP organization to greater heights amidst the pandemic during these challenging times,” Año said.
