Duterte appoints Lt. Gen. Clement as new AFP chief

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel & Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Salvador S. Panelo confirmed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Noel Clement as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff as General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. reaches his mandatory retirement age.

“One of the marching orders of the President is to continue the government’s goal to end the local communist armed conflict,” Panelo said.

The presidential spokesperson said the task that is not new to Lt. Gen. Clement as he headed the AFP Central Command (CentCom), previously led the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10th ID), and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the AFP, among others.

Panelo added the Palace is confident that with Clement at the helm of the AFP, he will continue to uphold the high degree of professionalism, the dedication and the integrity our soldiers have displayed to the flag and country.
